Our New Name

Updated: Feb 18, 2022

Dear members and friends,

We are writing to share some exciting news. The Creston-Kootenay Foundation has a new name: the Creston Valley Community Foundation. As you are the heart of our foundation family, it was important to the board we let you know first, before proceeding with more public announcements.

At our most recent Annual General Meeting on June 9, 2021, members voted to support a special resolution by the board allowing us to become the Creston Valley Community Foundation. There were two main reasons behind this decision:

  • The board wanted our name to concisely and precisely define our service area, from Yahk to Riondel. By specifically naming the Creston Valley, we will avoid the confusion generated by Kootenay, a much larger and more nebulous geographic term.

  • We wanted to create a stronger link to our identity as a member of the non-profit Community Foundations of Canada.

We want to assure you that while our name may be changing, the core values of our organization remain the same, as do all the financial arrangements made for endowed funds. In short, there is nothing you need to do or change. All our established funds will simply continue to do the same good works in the community.

Over the next few months, you may notice gradual upgrades of our logo and publicity materials. Please be patient with us: the board is choosing to make these changes with an eye to fiscal responsibility. We are avoiding any disruptions to our real work, granting money to support local projects and those in need.

We are very proud of our 15-year history as the Creston-Kootenay Foundation, and look forward to building on our future as the Creston Valley Community Foundation with you. Thank you for all your help on our journey.

Sincerely,

The Creston Valley Community Foundation Board of Directors
